My Favorite Makeup

I can't say I'm a makeup expert, but I do know a lot of makeup products.  If it exists there is a really good chance that I have tried it.  I'm a girl that hates to spend money unless I truly love what I'm buying.  Good makeup is very expensive so I have spent years trying to find items I can stomach spending a small fortune on.  Here are a few of my favorites:

1.  Foundation and Powder - Estee Lauder Double Wear
(I wear Ecru)  I will admit these are pricey (about $35 each), but this stuff stays on.  I usually put makeup on around 3am to make my early flights, and don't get off work until 7pm.  I need makeup that can hang that long and this does.  The only downside is that it is so good, it takes several washes to get it all off.

2.  Primer - Smashbox Photo Finish
Worth its weight in gold, this primer evens out skin tones then makes your makeup glide on as smooth as silk.  At $38 it kills me when I have to fork out the money to stock up, but I won't go without it.

3.  Eyeshadow - LORAC in Superstar
Cheap eye shadows are a waste of money.  I have had this neutral trio for about 6 months and I wear it all the time.  At $25 it is quite a bit more than something from over-the-counter type brands, but I promise it goes on smoother and lasts longer.  I have it in several colors but the Superstar is by far my favorite.

4.  Mascara - Covergirl Lashblast Fusion
Here is where I drop all the expensive brands.  There is no mascara better than this in my book.

5.  Mineral Foundation - L'Oreal True Match Naturale
No, I don't wear two kinds of foundations, but sometimes I'm in a hurry or don't feel like going through my entire makeup process.  I have tried dozens of mineral foundations, including expensive ones, but I think this one has the best coverage and longevity.

I am still on the hunt for the perfect eyeliner and blush so if you have a recommendation, I'd love to hear it!

Kisses,
A

How about your favs in lipstick, gloss, lip balm...anything for LA BOCA...I buy them all the time, but i never seem truly happy.
And what color should mature mamas like me wear...or not wear?

Help me, Makeup Maven!!

Laurie, you are too kind.
I rarely wear lipstick. I'm a big fan of lip moisturizers or lip balms and reapply it like a zillion times a day. If I do want a little color, I'll use a natural colored lip liner, fill in my entire mouth then put my normal balm over it. Also, I buy a lot of lipsmackers. Can't help myself, it tastes so yummy!!!

No wonder you look so natural...you just use the natural lip balms and moisturizers. I think using lipstick all the time AND my age has taken a lot of my natural color out of my lips. I look so pale if I dont have SOME color on my lips. Thinking of trying a lip stain, followed by gloss...maybe they will look natural but not heavy.

question...Which color Smashbox Photo Finish primer do you use? The clear one with SP 15?

I have used Double Wear for years and share your love for it! (I typically wear Linen or Shell when really pale) I usually try and get a bottle around gift time so that I feel I'm getting even more for my money!!
I also have had the same issues finding an eyeliner that doesn't smudge or run. The most recent that I'm using and can honestly say that I like is Maybelline EyeStudio Gel in Eggplant.

Laurie, I have used both clear ones but I currently use the apricot one and like it best.

Amber, thanks for the info! I will definitely track it down and give it a whirl!

Depending on the look you like, I like Revlon Colorstay liner - otherwise it would be Wet 'n Wild's gel/cream liner with a brush. Not the best brush, but the liner is as good as MACs in my opinion. Buy a decent paint brush and you're good to go! Would also HIGHly recommend Benefit's cream shadows (after Urban Decay's base). Those are my staples for sure. I'm so going to have to try EL Foundation when my MAC runs out ...
